Balancer

a load-balancing facility for the SRE-http web server (updated 26 March 1999)

Balancer is used to redirect http (WWW) requests recieved by a "main WWW site" to a set of subsidiary WWW sites.
  • Balancer can be customized -- you can specify, on a request-specific basis, which sites to redirect to.
  • Balancer is dynamic -- it gathers "load" information from subsidiary sites, and uses it to redirect requests in an optimal fashion.
  • and Balancer can work with non-SRE-http servers!
